‘Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’ Creative Director Speaks About Quests And Grinding
KEY POINTS
Ever since the release of the trailer for “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla,” more details about the game have surfaced. Some of these details include not having to force a player to grind levels just to complete quests and move on to the next mission.
According to Game Rant, Ashraf Ismail, the game’s creative director, revealed key details about the character progression system. Games in the franchise have allowed players to move through the game by acquiring skills and collecting gears. Other titles like “Origins” and “Odyssey” tried to change it up by letting players level-up before moving on, though some find it a bit cumbersome.
Ismail, however, said that “Valhalla” will be different. There will be other activities to do outside of the main story. As the story happens during the Viking era, players will be able to do as the Vikings do — pillaging and other battles are available to complete outside of the main missions. The creative director added that these are added so that players would have something else to do other than push for the story to move along.
Ismail also revealed other things about the game. “Valhalla” will follow a similar control mapping akin to “Origins” and “Odyssey”, with players encouraged to use the shoulder buttons during combat, Kotaku reported. A new “tool wheel” will also be included within the game’s options.
Players will also be allowed to choose the gender of their “Eivor.” This, according to the creative director, won’t change the game much. Players have already experienced handling a female or male character in “Syndicate,” while they were able to choose between Alexios and Kassandra in “Odyssey.” In “Valhalla,” Ismail didn’t reveal what significance a female or male Eivor plays, only that it wouldn’t matter much story-wise.
“Valhalla” also appears not to be making the same mistake as “Odyssey,” where a 50% XP boost was made available for $10. Players frowned upon that feature since most of them wanted to progress in the game on their own skills.
“Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” will come this year to PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X and PC.
