“Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” has been making headlines since it was revealed at the end of April, and it doesn’t look like the hype for the upcoming game will die down any time soon.
In the latest revelation about the next installment of the highly popular “Assassin’s Creed” franchise, narrative director Darby McDevitt teased fans about the game’s storyline and what to expect. According to him, the way they approached the narrative of “Valhalla” is what makes the game really unique.
“We do approach narrative in this game in a very unique way and I think it will be one of the stand-out aspects of the game--the structure of the narrative,” McDevitt said in an interview with GameSpot.
Moreover, according to the 44-year-old director and creative writer, they didn’t rely on next-gen tech in the development of the game’s story – suggesting that the end product is a deep narrative that focuses on engaging storytelling and structuring of experiences.
“This will definitely be a unique story structure for Assassin's Creed fans. But I would even dare say it's quite unique for any game. I don't think people have experienced a story in quite this way--how we present it to you, how you consume it--it's very unique,” McDevitt added.
Based on the trailer and McDevitt’s explanation, “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” takes place in the Dark Ages at the height of the Viking period. In the game, players will be taking on the role of Eivor, who strives to make a name for himself as part of a Viking clan.
However, aside from the main storyline, not much is known about the narrative, particularly the delivery and how it will connect to history and historical monuments.
Fortunately, more information is expected to come out about the latest “Assassin’s Creed” game, especially with Sony and Microsoft ramping up promotions for their next-gen consoles and the games that will be released alongside them.
There is no specific release date yet for “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla,” but it is expected to be released sometime in Holiday 2020 or earlier. The game will be playable on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X, PC and Google Stadia.
