Aston Villa – Chelsea: Watch Online, Preview, Prediction, Team News
When and Where: The Barclays Premier League match from Villa Park kicks-off from Villa Park at 10 a.m. ET. The match will be screened on the Fox Soccer Channel A delayed stream of the game will be available, with a subscription, on FoxSoccer2Go from 11.59 p.m.
Preview: Following the news on Friday that Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov has been diagnosed with acute leukemia, it may be hard for many of those at Villa Park tomorrow to focus on the mechanics of the match itself.
But, as was seen with Bolton's players in their first match after Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest, incidents such as these can act as a bonding mechanism for a squad.
If Villa need added inspiration for tomorrow's game other than playing for their absent captain, then they need look no further than their recent record against Chelsea.
The Londoners have emerged victorious from Villa Park just once in 13 seasons and have won just three of the last 12 league meetings between the sides home and away.
Chelsea may look good for a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League following their 1-0 over Benfica in Lisbon in midweek, but their hopes of participating in the competition next season appear ever more precarious. A 0-0 draw at home to Tottenham last weekend failed to close their five-point deficit to Spurs and more dropped points could be terminal to their top-four hopes.
Team News: Aston Villa's thin squad will be further tested by the news that Chrales N'Zogbia will be out for another month with a knee injury. With Alan Hutton also out with a calf injury, Amercan Eric Lichaj should get another chance to impress at right back.
With this matche sandwiched between the two legs with Benfica, Roberto Di Matteo should make significant changes to the side that turned out on Tuesday. Frank Lampard will likely return in midfield, especially with Raul Meirerles struggling with a knee problem.
Prediction: With their aging squad, it could be that Chelsea's progress in Europe comes at the expense of their league form. In no game is this more likely than the match at Villa Park, with the focus sure to still be on their tie with Benfica.
Villas have not been impressive under Alex McLeish this season and without the goals of the injured Darren Bent, are lacking the one player who could turn dour performances into points. Yet the news about their captain could well be the motivation that Villa need to continue their impressive record against Chelsea.
