Atlanta Apartment Shooting: 2 Teens Dead, Others Injured Over Social Media Fight
A shooting at an Atlanta apartment on Saturday killed a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy and left multiple others injured from gunshot-related injuries.
The shooting took place at an apartment complex about 15 miles southwest of downtown.
The shooting allegedly broke out due to a "dispute on social media." A group showed up to the apartment with guns to confront another group who also had guns, according to police.
"A week before Christmas, families should be preparing to celebrate Instead, we have parents in Atlanta doing what no parent should ever have to do: laying their children to rest,' Atlanta Mayor Ander Dinkens said in a press release.
"My heart is broken for these families. And I have anger in my soul," Dickens said.
There were multiple teenagers injured in the shooting including an 11-year-old boy, a 15-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy. They were all taken to a local hospital along with several other victims.
Two of the teens were shot and one was skimmed by a bullet, Hampton Jr. said. It is unclear what the other victim's injuries are.
"Atlanta is a group project. It takes every single one of us to counter this plague in our community. From City government, to our police, to our schools, to clergy, to parents and to young people themselves, we must pledge not to accept this violence as normal and do all that we can to end it," Anders said in the release.
