‘Atlanta’ Season 2 Delayed Until 2018; Why ‘Star Wars’ Is To Blame
If you’re waiting for the start of Season 2 of “Atlanta,” it’s going to be a long time before the hit series returns.
FX announced today at the Television Critics Association press tour that the series will not air in 2017. Season 2 is set for 2018 due to Donald Glover’s busy schedule. Glover is currently preparing for his role as Lando Calrissian in the untitled Han Solo “Star Wars” movie, which is set to begin filming this year for a 2018 release.
While fans of the show may be upset, Glover has been looking forward to the “Star Wars” role. “Lando’s a big deal for me,” the actor said backstage at the 2017 Golden Globes (via Variety). “It was literally the first toy I ever got.”
Glover will also have his hands full with other projects thanks to an exclusive overall deal he signed with FX Productions. The deal calls for the actor to develop new projects for FX Networks’ outlets as well as other networks and streaming services.
The Golden Globe winner will also remain on the series as the writer, director, executive producer and star. On Sunday, the series took home the Golden Globe award for best comedy series while Glover won best comedy actor.
“Donald is a remarkable artist, effortlessly shifting from actor to writer, producer, director and musician to create one amazing project after another,” said Nick Grad, president of original programing for FX Networks and FX Productions, in a press release.
“‘Atlanta’ was just the beginning, the breakout comedy of the year and a series revered as much for its originality as its honest look at the experience of being aspiring, young and black in that legendary city,” he continued. “We’re proud to partner with Donald in an overall deal that will allow him to continue turning his creative vision into incredible television.”
