Auburn Football Shooting: Three Dead, Several Wounded, Including Auburn Football Players, At Off-Campus Party
A shooting at an off-campus party at Auburn University in Alabama has left at least three people dead.
The Auburn Police Department has not identified the victims yet, but tweets from family, players and local media report that Ladarious Phillips and Ed Christian were killed and a third player, Eric Mack, is hospitalized.
Details are very sketchy at the moment, but Birmingham TV station WTVM has confirmed that three people are dead and two are wounded.
Phillips' mother confirmed to ABC that her son was killed in the shooting Saturday night, but she had no other information.
According to a witness named Turquorius Vines, who was involved, the shooting stemmed from an argument over a woman.
Vines said he and some friends were arguing with two men. Vines admits to punching one of the men, while his friend hit the other with a bottle. The strangers then opened fire, according to Vines.
Went from us chilling with all these females to a massacre for no reason at all, Vines said. It happened so quick, in about a second.
Phillips, who was 20, was a fullback for the Tigers. He no longer appears on the team roster as he was transferring to Jackson State in the fall.
Christian, also 20, was a tackle on the team for one season, but he had left the roster as well.
Mack is still a player on the team. He is an offensive lineman who was in the mix of players that could have an impact this coming season for the Tigers.
According to reports, Mack is still in critical condition in a local hospital. But at least one source has said that he will make a full recovery.
