A 30-year-old nurse from Australia has been charged with 46 counts of rape against 21 women after he allegedly drugged, raped and filmed them.
The accused man from Brisbane, Australia was initially arrested in August for sexually assaulting a woman in her early 20s. The woman was allegedly drugged and raped at a house after going on a Tinder date with the man.
A search warrant was executed at his property at the time of his arrest. The search led to the discovery of several mobile phones, recording devices and illicit drugs. These pieces of evidence led to a broader investigation into the crime.
Queensland Police Service issued a public appeal for further evidence against the accused man. In an update on Wednesday, they said that 31 more victims of alleged sexual assault had been identified.
The man, who remains unnamed for legal reasons, is now charged with more than 135 offenses. These include 46 counts of rape against 21 women, 38 counts of observations or recordings in breach of privacy, 14 counts of stupefying to commit an offense, reported Brisbane Times.
He also faces charges related to computer hacking, distributing intimate images, impersonation and stalking.
It is believed that the offenses were committed between 2016 and 2020.
Detective Inspector Glen Farmer said that the accused man lured the victims using social media dating sites. "It's also alleged he subsequently administered substances and filmed himself engaged in non-consensual sexual acts with his victims," ABC.net.au quoted Farmer as saying.
According to the police, an investigation is still underway to identify other women who might have also experienced abuse at the hands of the accused man. "We are encouraging any woman who believes they may have experienced a similar pattern of behavior to come forward," Farmer added.
The accused man's registration as a health practitioner was suspended in August after his first court appearance, reported 7News. He then faced 10 charges in connection with the sexual assault of the woman in her 20s. The court then heard that the sedatives he used for stupefying the victim came from the hospital he worked.
He is scheduled to reappear in the Brisbane Magistrate court Thursday.
