The author of a self-published online book “How to Murder Your Husband” was sentenced to life in prison Monday for being found guilty of murdering her actual husband.

Nancy Crampton Brophy, 71, was found guilty of shooting and killing her husband, Dan Brophy, 63, while he was at his job at the Oregon Culinary Institute on June 2, 2018. Prosecutors argued that she was motivated to kill Dan Brophy for a $1.5 million life insurance payout.

She was convicted of second-degree murder on May 25 after a seven-week trial. Nancy Brophy’s sentencing includes the possibility of parole after 25 years in prison, according to reports. Her lawyers say she plans to appeal.

In Nancy Brophy’s novel, she explains in detail the multiple options on how to commit an untraceable murder, which included guns, knives, poison and hiring a hitman. She also mentions that she enjoys the idea of not getting caught.

Nancy Brophy was arrested in September 2018.

The self-published author allegedly purchased a ghost-gun kit online along with a Glock 17 handgun at a gun show, according to prosecutors. Nancy Brophy explained during the trial that she had only researched ghost guns for a future novel.

Prosecutors noted that Nancy Brophy and Dan Brophy had struggled financially at the time of his death. Nancy Brophy said in court that she and her husband both purchased life insurance policies as a part of a plan to reduce their debt, NBC News reported.
