The long-anticipated Marvel Comics superhero epic, The Avengers, will be released on May 4, 2012 with a star-studded cast who each has appeared in their own film or made a cameo. The film has been produced by Marvel Studios and will be distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, based upon the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It crosses over several successful Marvel superhero films including Iron Man (2008), The Incredible Hulk (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011) and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). Joss Whedon directed and wrote the film.
Development of The Avengers began when Marvel Studios received a grant from Merrill Lynch in April 2005. Production began in April 2011 in Albuquerque New Mexico, before moving to Cleveland, Ohio, in August and New York City in September.
The movie is scheduled to be released on May 4, 2012 in the United States and a two-minute trailer has already been released. Watch the trailer and meet the cast below:
