Baby Cut From Murdered Mother's Womb In Chicago Dies From Brain Injury
Despite doctors' best efforts, a baby passed away on Friday weeks after being cut from the womb of his mother in Chicago.
It all began in April when 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, who was pregnant at the time, received an ad for free baby clothes. When she arrived, she was met by Clarisa Figueroa and her daughter, Desiree.
According to investigators, the pair greeted Ochoa-Lopez at the door and welcomed her in to show her around. Desiree then started showing Lopez their family photo album when Clarisa went around Lopez’s back and began strangling her with a cable. Clarisa then climbed on top of Lopez and continued strangling her for nearly five minutes. The pair then cut Lopez’s baby from her womb and called 911 claiming that Clarisa had just delivered a child that wasn’t breathing. Lopez’s body was disposed of with the help of Clarisa’s boyfriend, Piotr Bobak, while Clarisa was rushed to a nearby hospital with the child.
Medical staff began to suspect something was amiss when Clarisa showed no signs of giving birth.
Not long after her murder, Lopez’s husband reported her missing, sparking a near-month long search for her. It ended on May 14 when her body was discovered in a trash can at the Figueroa home. Investigators also discovered that Clarisa had been planning the murder for months and had targeted Lopez to steal her unborn baby. Clarisa and Desiree were subsequently arrested on charges of first-degree murder while Piotr was arrested for concealing a homicide.
During all this, the baby was moved to intensive care to ensure the baby’s health after Lopez’s murder. Yovanny Jadiel Lopez had been stable for nearly a month, with his father Yovany and members of his family even holding him at some hospital visits. Unfortunately, things turned south on Friday morning due to a brain injury the infant had suffered. Doctors were unable to save the child, who passed away Friday morning from said injury.
The Figueroas and Bobak are all currently in police custody and awaiting arraignment.
