‘The Bachelor’ 2016 Spoilers: Who Was Eliminated In Episode 1? One Contestant Starts Drama During Premiere [RECAP]
Ya’ll ready to fall in love? Ben Higgins is! After getting his heart broken by Kaitlyn Bristowe on “The Bachelorette,” the 27-year-old software salesman is back on ABC for a second chance at love on Season 20 of “The Bachelor.”
Hailing from Warsaw, Indiana, Ben now lives in Denver, Colorado. But he’s looking for a girl who shares the same small town values as him. The only problem? He’s afraid that he won’t be the guy that the women joining “The Bachelor” want. Based on a first impression of the contestants, it seems like Ben has no need to worry.
Limo Arrivals
The limo arrivals start off really sweet with Lauren B, a flight attendant, gifting Ben with a set of wings. Caila is a good follow up, running and jumping into his arms. But then things start to get weird. A Canadian contestant named Jami admits that she knows Kaitlyn Bristowe.
“She told me you have a really, really, really big … heart,” she tells him.
Woah, girl! Lace somehow manages to top that cringe-worthy moment though, asking Ben to close his eyes and then quickly kissing on the lips.
“I wanted the first kiss,” she says before heading inside.
The craziness continues with Lauren R, who admits that she stalked Ben on social media – and then somehow manages to keep ignoring him when he asks her name a couple of times. But nothing tops Shushanna, who legitimately doesn’t speak a word of English to Ben.
Then, of course, come some other great first impressions, like JoJo, who steps out of the limo wearing a unicorn mask, and Mandi, who is donning a giant rose on her head.
“Maybe if things go well later you can pollinate it,” Mandi coyly tells Ben.
Gag. Fortunately it’s not just us who think she’s a little off. The other girls are sensing the “crazy” vibe as well.
The shenanigans continue as twins Haley and Emily make their introduction – in unison. And then a mini horse arrives. Yes, a contestant walks up the Bachelor Mansion driveway with a mini horse.
But potentially the best limo exit belongs to Jackie, who hands Ben a “save the date” … for their wedding on March 14, 2016. She even picked out a hashtag for their nuptials -- #ToHigginsAndToHold.
First Impressions
Ben now has 26 sexy, single and mostly sane ladies fighting for his heart. And after the limo arrivals, Ben’s pretty confident that his future wife is in the room. So, let the games begin!
Mandi cuts him off before he can even finish his introduction speech. Of course, the other girls aren’t happy – and Ben doesn’t look too thrilled either when she pulls out her tools to give him a dental exam.
Olivia drops a bizarre bombshell when she confesses that she quit her full time job as a news anchor to join the show, and the twins try to convince Ben that it’s not weird to be dating both of them at the same time.
“You might as well throw some twins in the mix and see what happens,” Haley or Emily – we can’t tell the two apart – says to the cameras. “You never know.”
Ben’s busy getting to know everyone, but little does he know that another limo has arrived. “The Bachelor” host Chris Harrison greets Becca Tilley and Amber James, two contestants from Chris Soules’ season of “The Bachelor.” Both girls didn’t make a lasting connection with Chris, but they’re hoping that things turn out differently with Ben. The catch is that they have to ask Ben if they can stay. He can either let them join in on the festivities or send them packing before the first rose ceremony.
The other girls in the house already seem to have their minds made up about Becca and Amber – and they want them gone. Jubilee thinks that they have an “edge,” while others just see it as two less roses for everyone else. Ben is definitely surprised to see the pair of them, but he doesn’t tell them to leave.
With Becca and Amber’s entrance out of the way, Lace takes on the role of creating drama by using her one-on-one time with Ben to ask for a “better first kiss.” Ben starts explaining that he wants to get to know everyone better before getting physical, but is interrupted by Mandi. Lace immediately puts the blame on Mandi, believing that Ben would have kissed her had the other girl not arrived. But that’s not the case. Ben makes sure to find Lace letter to explain that he didn’t want her to feel rejected.
The First Impression Rose
Its night one and all the girls are already head over heels for Ben, but “The Bachelor” star only has one first impression rose. Although all of the Season 20 contestants want the coveted flower, he pulls Olivia aside to give it to her.
“Our conversation meant a lot to me,” he explains, adding that he appreciates her taking the risk. “You stood out to me tonight and I’m really excited you’re here. Olivia, will you accept this rose?”
And Olivia does!
Rose Ceremony
Ben starts the rose ceremony with what appears to be the Matthew McConaughey chest beat chant from “Wolf of Wall Street.” Weird, we know.
Olivia has the first impression rose, but Lauren B get first rose of the rose ceremony. LB is next, followed by Caila, Amber, Jami, Jennifer, Jubilee, Amanda, JoJo, Leah, Rachel, Samantha, Jackie, Haley, Emily, Shoshanna, Lauren H, Becca and Mandi.
With only one rose left, Ben chooses to give it to Lace. She accepts it, sending the remaining girls home -- Breanna, Izzy, Jessica, Laura, Lauren R, Leah, Maegan and Tiara. But before everyone can celebrate with Ben, Lace pulls Ben aside. She’s upset that Ben didn’t look at her once during the rose ceremony, and Ben is totally confused.
“The issue was that I didn’t make eye contact during the rose ceremony?” he asks her. Ben promises that it wasn’t on purpose, but he tells the cameras that he has a “feeling the drama is just getting started."
