'The Bachelor' 2016 Spoilers: Who Was Eliminated In Episode 5? Rose Ceremony To Be Continued [RECAP]
Pack your bags, ladies. Ben Higgins' journey to find love on "The Bachelor" is continuing … in Mexico City! That’s right, the 11 remaining women on the ABC reality show departed Las Vegas to date the 27-year-old software salesman across the border in episode 5.
First One-On-One Date
Olivia strongly believes that she’ll have a one-on-one date with Ben in Mexico City –but her name isn’t on the date card! Instead, single mom Amanda is the lucky lady to get some alone time with the sexy bachelor. She’s ecstatic, especially since this is her “first real date” in a “really long time.” But Olivia couldn’t be more upset. She tells the cameras that she’s “surprised” that Amanda got the date card and doesn’t think that she’s the right person for Ben since she’s a single mom.
Ben didn’t seem to get that memo. He surprises the women at 4:20 a.m. with a personal wake up call for Amanda. After giving her a few moments to get ready, he whisks her away for a romantic hot air balloon ride.
The two enjoy an afternoon in the sky, but Amanda can’t stop thinking about talking to Ben about her past relationship. With two small children at home, she knows she has to open up to him later.
Later that evening, Amanda explains that she got married when her oldest daughter was six months old. However, she adds that there were “always red flags” in her marriage. According to the 25-year-old esthetician, her ex had an addictive personality and had priorities other than his family. The final straw in their marriage was her finding an old cell phone with messages from other women.
Ben listens carefully, but Amanda wants to make one thing clear – she takes marriage very seriously.
“I admire you,” Ben says when Amanda finishes her story. “You’ve been through a lot.”
Although some of the other women didn’t think that Amanda would make it back, Ben gifts her with the rose. He tells the cameras that she’s “so deserving to be loved” and that he can definitely imagine a future with her.
Group Date
Everyone wants a date with Ben – but not a group date. The card lists Jubilee, Becca, JoJo, Caila, Emily, Lauren B, Jennifer, Leah and Olivia. Olivia is disappointed again, but ready to “do anything” in order to get that date rose.
The date starts off in a classroom where an instructor attempts to teach the women important phrases in Spanish – like “I’m falling in love with you,” “I want to kiss you” and “will you marry me?” Everyone puts in effort … except for Jubilee. She refuses to try, telling Ben that he’s said those phrases to four other women before her.
Ben and the other women are taken back by Jubilee, but there is more to the group date than learning how to speak Spanish. The class is so that the girls have help with the second part of their day – cooking! (Don’t ask how learning how to say “I want to kiss you” is helpful in a kitchen.)
Ben takes the nine ladies to a restaurant where the owners reveal that they’re going to have a cook off with recipes in Spanish. The women must split up into pairs, but with nine people on the date, Ben counts as part of the group. Of course, Olivia makes the first move and claims Ben as her partner. This upsets the others, who feel that Olivia has a mini one-on-one date with the bachelor.
“Ben and I are a good team,” she tells the cameras, adding that she doesn’t care if the other girls don’t like how she operates.
Ben notices that everyone is having fun – except for Jubilee. Although she tells the camera that she’s enjoying herself, Ben thinks that she’s holding back. Ultimately Jubilee and Lauren B win the cook off, but that’s not enough to win Ben over. Later on at the cocktail party – after Olivia steals him first – Ben decides to pull Jubilee aside to talk to her. Although she should be happy to get some alone time with him, she shocks everyone by pulling her hand away from him.
When the two get away from the others, Jubilee explains that she feels “overshadowed” by the women on the group dates. She wants to know if he even notices her, and Ben’s answer shocks her. He tells Jubilee that they had something that could be “built upon,” but that he’s not confident in their relationship anymore.
“You’ve pulled back,” he adds.
Jubilee asks him not to give up on her. However, Ben already made up his mind. He says that it’s best that they say goodbye. Jubilee is visibly upset, but keeps herself composed around Ben. It’s not until after she leaves that she breaks down for the cameras, saying that she feels like “the most unlovable person in the world right now.”
Ben’s clearly shaken after returning, and JoJo quickly pulls him away to console him. He appreciates how comfortable that JoJo makes him feel, but not enough to give her the group date rose. When he returns to the other women he reveals that he wants to give the group date rose to somebody he “reconnected” with – Olivia.
One-On-One Date
Lauren H has the final one-on-one date of episode 5. “Lets design a life together,” the date card reads.
The two visit Pineda Covalin, a high end fashion house based out of Mexico City. And surprise, surprise – it just so happens to be Mexico’s Fashion Week! One of the designers extends an offer to Ben and Lauren H to see things behind-the-scenes, and when they get there they find out that they’re actually going to be walking down the runway.
Lauren H is nervous at first, but completely nails her walk. And Ben couldn’t be happier. It’s an experience he will never forget and he appreciates her good attitude throughout the entire thing. But do the two have more to their connection? Ben’s not sure at first. Lauren H opens up about her last serious relationship and how she’s ready to let everything go and let someone in. That’s something that Ben can appreciate, and he gifts her with the date rose after thanking her for her honesty and openness.
Cocktail Party
Episode 5 started with 11 women, but there are only 10 heading into the rose ceremony. Ever since Jubilee’s departure, all the ladies are nervous. They are happy that Ben’s taking this journey seriously, but scared that they could be the next on the chopping block. To make matters worse, everyone is fed up with Olivia.
Things take a turn during the cocktail party when Amanda discusses her children and relationship with her ex-husband.
“I feel like it’s an episode of ‘Teen Mom,’” Olivia tells Amanda.
Needless to say, Amanda doesn’t appreciate it – and she doesn’t let Olivia get away with it. With Lauren B at her side, Amanda tells Olivia that she’s confused and thinks that it’s common sense not to compare anyone to “Teen Mom.” She then asks if Olivia would like to be compared to Snooki from “Jersey Shore.”
Surprisingly, Olivia apologizes to Amanda and tears up. “I’m going to try harder from here on out,” she promises the other women. But do they believe her? Emily thinks that Olivia is being fake and is ready to confess all to Ben.
Emily pulls Ben aside and begins to cry as she explains how “disrespectful” Olivia has been. “It just made me think, am I the right person for you?” she explains.
Ben doesn’t want to see Emily upset and tells her that her opinion matters to him. He’s determined to get to the bottom of what’s going on with Olivia, and begins to question the other women. Amanda admits that she was “targeted” by Olivia, and Jennifer reveals that Olivia doesn’t “click” with everyone.
Chris Harrison arrives to pull Ben aside for the episode 5 rose ceremony, but Ben is still confused about Olivia. The episode ends with a “To be continued...” screen as he asks to speak with her. But will Ben take back her rose?
