'Bachelor Pad' Cancelled: 'Bachelor' Spin-Off Won't Return This Summer, Producer Mike Fleiss Says
Brace yourselves, “Bachelor Pad” fans—the raunchy spin-off to the wildly popular “Bachelor” series has reportedly been cancelled.
During a Twitter conversation with fans of his hit “Bachelor” franchise, series creator and producer Mike Fleiss deflated the hopes and dreams of Tierra fans by tweeting the following:
Premiering in 2010, “Bachelor Pad” gave “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” castoffs a second chance at romance by living together in a mansion and competing in a variety of challenges. The show’s producers routinely upped the “raunch factor” in the summer series, subjecting its scantily-clad participants to everything from pie-eating contests to games of Twister. For successively navigated “Bachelor Pad’s” minefield of challenges, dates and scheming, the winning contestant was awarded a $250,000 prize.
While “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” both enjoyed recent ratings success, “Bachelor Pad’s” third season struggled to find its stride. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 2012 edition of the series experienced a double-digit ratings decline compared to Season 2, averaging just 4 million viewers per episode.
The news isn’t all bad for fans of the “Bachelor” series. The new season of “The Bachelorette,” featuring fan favorite Desiree Hartsock, has already begun production.
