'Bachelor' Star Lauren Bushnell Talks Ben Higgins Love For Jojo Fletcher
"Happily ever after" is a phrase that is no longer applicable to former "Bachelor" couple Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell. On Wednesday, Bushnell revealed to People the truth behind the couple's breakup.
In this week's issue of People, the almost-Mrs. Higgins opened up about how "hurtful" it was to discover Higgins said "I love you" to her and fellow contestant, Joelle "Jojo" Fletcher.

Bushnell shared that she didn't recall having "ever talked about how hurtful that was" publicly.
"I always try to be really strong because I wanted to move forward from it," she told People on Wednesday. "But because I wanted to move forward from it, I don’t think I ever really opened up about how hard that was just in terms of, like, I wanted to make that decision to get engaged one time in my life and I felt like I wasn’t told everything that had happened."
Although Higgins did propose to Bushnell over "Bachelorette" star Fletcher — with an exquisite 4.25-carat ring, might we add — Bushnell didn't know that he professed his love to Fletcher before she agreed to marry him. In regard to his bold decision to reveal his true feelings to both girls, Higgins told Us Weekly in 2016 he doesn't "regret being honest."
"When 'The Bachelor' aired, reliving that months later wasn’t ideal either," she revealed to People. "I was still like, 'We're going to move forward from this,' but then the press, that’s what everybody wanted to talk about. I’ve never shared with anyone, except for Ben, how hurtful that situation was."
While Fletcher was "told what had happened" before Bushnell, she has reportedly moved on from the incident.

In mid-2016, Fletcher became "The Bachelorette" during the show's twelfth season. By the season's end, she found a soulmate in former NFL player turned sports commentator Jordan Rodgers — brother of Green Bay Packer's quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
As the couple continuously showers each other with love all over social media, they appear to be relatively happy.
"Exactly one year ago today I met the rest of my life," Jordan wrote on Instagram in March 2017. "If I could do it all over again, I would've kissed her straight out of the limo! (...and used a bit more hairspray) Love this one."
Fletcher also shared on Instagram in August 2016 that "the best thing to hold onto in life is each other.... & tacos."
On the other side of the fence, things have not been all sunshine and rainbows for Bushnell since the final rose ceremony. After one year together, Bushnell and Higgins officially announced in May 2017 that they called off their engagement.
The Los Angeles Times noted that the couple was attending "counseling through their church" before they decided to break up. Likewise, according to E! News, the couple had apparently called off their wedding long before they decided to split up altogether.
Ironically, when Freeform placed a question mark at the end of their docuseries — "Happily Ever After?" — it was as if they also questioned how long the pair would last.
"Looking back, I wish I could be like, 'That’s why it didn’t work out,' but I think it was just a very abnormal situation," she shared. "I mean we tried."
While they will no longer be with each other, we do hope that Higgins and Bushnell find their true match in the near future.
