KEY POINTS
- "Bad Boys for Life" digital and Blu-ray will be released early
- The film is the highest grossing movie in North America for 2020
- There will be over 50 minutes of bonus content
The digital and Blu-ray release of “Bad Boys For Life” is coming sooner than expected. Fans should be able to watch the hit movie in their homes as early as next week and there will be over 50 minutes of bonus content to look forward to.
With the coronavirus pandemic putting pressure on theaters, movie studios are adapting to the situation by releasing films early on digital and Blu-ray. “Bad Boys for Life” is one the films that Sony has decided to release early.
The digital version of the Will Smith starrer will be out by March 31, Deadline reported. The Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD and DVD will be available on April 21.
The typical window for a film to hit digital purchase is 74-90 days and 88-90 days for a physical disc. Companies like Sony, Lionsgate, Disney, STX Films, and Warner Bros. have decided to release their films early because of the coronavirus pandemic, Variety reported.
Some of the movies that will be released early include “The Invisible Man,” “Birds of Prey,” “The Hunt,” and “Onward.” The early release of “Bad Boys for Life” is significant because it is the highest grossing film of 2020 so far with $204 million in earnings from the North America market.
There will be over 50 minutes of bonus content in the digital, 4K Ultra HD, and Blu-ray release. The bonus content includes extended and alternate scenes, alternate ending, blooper reel, a video showing the making of the film, 25 years of history of the franchise that includes conversation with the cast and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and a video of the directors Adil and Billal talking about the Easter Eggs, Collider reported.
The “Bad Boys” franchise started with the 1995 movie and the sequel came out in 2003. The third installment has been in the making for a long time and it was finally released in theaters on Jan. 17.
(An earlier version of this article said the general practice is to wait for at least 90 days from a movie’s theatrical release to make it available on digital and other formats. This has now been corrected.)
