Formula One champion Fernando Alonso feels that he is good enough to compete again after a horrific cycling accident he suffered three weeks ago.

The 39-year-old Spanish racer revealed he is ready to get back behind the wheel and plans to compete in the Bahrain Grand Prix set for Mar. 28.

"I feel great and in the best shape I’ve ever been before both physically and mentally," Alonso said to reporters via TMZ Sports. "I feel great and in the best shape I’ve ever been before both physically and mentally."

It was last month when the multi-titled race car driver was hit by a car while he was out cycling in Switzerland. He was out training at that time when he was attempting to turn into a supermarket parking lot near his home in Lugano, Gazzetta Dello Sport reported. This left him with a broken jaw.

According to F1 Team CEO Laurent Rossi, Alonso was lucky to come out of that harrowing incident only with a broken jaw. The driver underwent surgery for it and now appears completely fit and ready.

"So besides the necessary surgery and care on his jaw, the rest is totally fine. Fernando is completely fit. He is totally operational," Rossi stated.

Rossi admitted that they were surprised at the fast-paced recovery of Alonso, who expressed his willingness to compete in Bahrain. The Spaniard has been sharing his crazy training regimen to the public, looking determined to ace the upcoming Grand Prix.

Alonso’s Bahrain Grand Prix return was also supported by two-time champion and teammate Esteban Ocon in a report from BBC.

"He doesn't look like a 39-year-old and he doesn't drive like one," Ocon stressed. "He will be ready and he will be performing at the top level. No doubt he will be strong, but I will do my best against him."
