Baltimore Mom Admits Killing 2 Children After Cops Find Their Decomposing Bodies At Home
A 28-year-old mother from Maryland has admitted murdering her two children a day after their decomposing bodies were discovered from her home, police said.
Jamerria Hall of Baltimore has confessed to killing her two children -- 6-year-old Da'Neria Thomas and 8-year-old Davin Thomas. Hall will be charged with their deaths, Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said at a press conference Wednesday.
Deputies were called to an apartment at Coventry Road Tuesday after a resident noticed a foul smell. The responding officers found the decomposing bodies of the two children in two separate rooms inside the apartment. During a police interview, Hall admitted to killing the children, Harisson said.
The cause and manner of the deaths have not been determined yet. Meanwhile, the detectives are working with the medical examiner’s office and Child Protective Services as part of the investigation, The Baltimore Sun reported.
“My heart goes out to the family members,” Harrison said, adding: “There is nothing more difficult than investigating the murder of a child, much less two children.”
“This is an unfathomable gut-wrenching tragedy,” Mayor Brandon Scott said at the news conference Wednesday. “Davin and Da’Neira, who are 6 and 8, should be starting school, like the rest of the kids in the city," Scott added.
He said he will be reviewing the case to understand if any agency lapses have contributed to the children’s deaths. “We have to and we will close any gap that enables tragedies like this to occur,” the mayor added.
Hall had reportedly posted on her Facebook page in April about her struggles with depression. “Every month I had supervised probation office visits. I suffer from myofascial pain syndrome. PTSD always taps me on the shoulder and triggers my anxiety,” the Baltimore Sun reported, citing the woman's Facebook post.
According to court records, Hall was charged with first-degree arson and child endangerment in 2018. The charges stemmed from an incident when she attempted to set her mother’s apartment on fire while she was staying with her parents for a night.
As per the criminal complaint, Hall erected a shrine of family photos and mementos in the house before setting them on fire and disappeared with her children. The Baltimore police had issued a missing alert for Hall and her two children in October 2018 but they were soon found safely.
Hall pleaded guilty to the charges and the court ordered her to serve a five-year sentence with all but one year suspended. She was also asked to pay $3,000 restitution for the damage to the home.
Later that year, Hall received custody of the children after the children's father failed to respond to the court proceedings.
