First-quarter earnings season will be in full swing next week. Investors will hear from a string of multinational corporations beginning Monday.

Other major players set to report earnings in the coming week include Abbott Laboratories, Coca-Cola, General Electric, Google, Honeywell, Intel, Yahoo, Johnson & Johnson, McDonald's, Microsoft, PepsiCo and Verizon.
Thomson Reuters projects earnings to rise by just 1.6 percent in the first quarter, and other forecasts are even weaker. Bloomberg's survey of analysts points to a 1.8 percent decline in profits at S&P 500 companies. That would be first decline since 2009.
