Barack Obama Vacation: Photos Show Former POTUS With Richard Branson On Luxury Caribbean Escape
Former president Barack Obama tried out some high-adrenaline water recreation activities over the weekend with his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, at the Moskito Island that belongs to billionaire Richard Branson who invited them for a vacation.
Pictures in a post by Branson on the Virgin Group website shows the 44th president having fun and learning to kiteboard (also known as kite surfing) — a fairly new sport which outfits a surfer on board with a handheld kite for propulsion.
"One of the first stories Barack told me when he and Michelle arrived on Moskito Island was how, just before he became president, he had been surfing on a dangerous break in Hawaii. When he came in from an exhilarating session, the new head of his security team turned to him and said: 'This will be the last time you surf for eight years.' For the next eight years he didn't have the chance to surf, enjoy watersports or do many of the things he loved," Branson wrote in the post.
Before Branson himself could learn to foilboard, another young watersport that resembles water skiing, he challenged Obama to learn how to kiteboard. The former president won the challenge pretty easily, according to Branson's post.
"After all he has done for the world, I couldn't begrudge him his well-deserved win. Now he has left, I'm going back into the water to practice for the next challenge," Branson wrote.
Photos from Obama's vacation make it evident that it was no surprise that his two-week break from politics was serving him well. He went to Palm Spring soon after he left Washington, D.C., and from there to Branson's island.
Below are some of Obama's best pictures from his post-presidency vacation.
