Barack Obama plans to get a COVID-19 vaccine once it is available and if Dr. Anthony Fauci will say it is safe. The ex-POTUS is even willing to take the vaccine shot and show it on TV to convince the public to do the same.
In an interview with SiriusXM host Joe Madison to air on Thursday, Obama said he would believe Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the nation's top infectious disease expert, if he would say that a coronavirus vaccine is safe.
"People like Anthony Fauci, who I know, and I've worked with, I trust completely," Obama was quoted by CNN, as saying.
"So, if Anthony Fauci tells me this vaccine is safe, and can vaccinate, you know, immunize you from getting Covid, absolutely, I'm going to take it. I promise you that when it's been made for people who are less at risk, I will be taking it."
During the interview, the former president acknowledged the fact that some are hesitant to take the vaccine. However, he believes that vaccines work and that's why there is no polio anymore or kids dying from measles and smallpox that used to decimate the population. So, Obama might take the shot on TV to show everyone that the vaccine is safe and encourage others to do the same.
"I may end up taking it on TV or having it filmed, just so that people know that I trust this science, and what I don't trust is getting Covid," he said.
Obama is also confident that President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will do their best and work with scientists and medical experts to address the health crisis.
"In terms of Covid now, obviously at the end of the day, one of the great things about having Joe Biden and Kamala Harris back in charge on January 20, is they will also then put scientists and medical experts in charge," Obama added.
Meanwhile, Twitter users were very impressed with Obama. They praised him for his willingness to get the vaccine and promote it.
"That's what a true leader does.. he leads by example," one commented.
"That's how its done because I'm not going to take it until every powerful person does it first just saying," another added.
"Gotta to love a true leader! Thank you sir for your continued dedication to our Country," a third user added.
