'Barbie': Simu Liu Shares His Experience Working With Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling
Simu Liu shared his experience working in the highly anticipated fantasy comedy movie, "Barbie" starring Ryan Gosling as Ken and Margot Robbie as Barbie.
"It was pretty much what you see in the trailer," the 33-year-old Canadian actor said about his role during an interview with People, published Sunday. Liu plays the role of a second Ken in the flick.
The actor reflected on the teaser trailer released over the weekend by Warner Bros. and said, "I feel like you can kind of surmise what kind of experience we had filming it just by watching the trailer. It's so much fun."
Viewers got a quick glimpse of Gosling, Robbie and Liu dancing and laughing in the teaser trailer.
Considering the fun teaser, Liu explained that there was "dancing" and "laughing" every single day on the set. "So now to finally see that in a work form is actually surreal because we just felt like we were having fun the whole time," he added.
The actor also teased that another trailer will come out before the movie's release and he can't wait for the audience to see that one.
"But I'm really excited for people to watch more," he said. "I think there will be one more trailer that comes out before the movie, but I think it's great to keep the audience guessing, and I can't wait for them to see."
Helmed by Greta Gerwig, the highly anticipated movie is slated to release on July 21 next year. Warner Bros. Pictures released the first look of Robbie as Barbie in April.
Fans also got a glimpse in June of Robbie and Gosling skating together on the sets, wearing colorful matching outfits.
"Barbie" is based on the popular line of dolls by American toy company Mattel, which was originally launched in 1959. Barbie's love interest Ken was first introduced in 1961.
This is not the first time when a movie based on Barbie is going to be released. Previously, two other movies were released based on the dolls – "Barbie: A Fashion Fairytale" in 2010 and "Barbie: A Fairy Secret" in 2011.
Aside from "Barbie," Liu will appear in a romantic comedy, "One True Loves," which is currently under post-production. He will also reprise his Marvel character, Shang-Chi in a movie titled, "Avengers: Secret Wars," which is slated to release in May 2026.
