  • Barcelona has fired head coach Quique Setien
  • This development comes after a humiliating 2-8 loss against Bayern Munich
  • It has been reported that Ronald Koeman will step up as the new coach

The current situation in Barcelona has been abundant in turmoil with its most recent loss at the hand of Bayern Munich. The quarter-round Champions League loss proved to be the final game of Quique Setien as he was sacked by the organization to further focus on rebuilding the squad.

Multiple rumors have surrounded the club with how the team has constantly struggled throughout the past few months. While there have been signs of brilliance on the field care of Lionel Messi, the locker room has been filled with uncertainty. With the current development of the team letting go of Setien, Barca is now off to a new direction in the months to come.

“The Board of Directors have agreed that Quique Setién is no longer the first team coach,” Barcelona’s official statement said.

Throughout this year, Setien was appointed as the club’s head coach last January 13 and served the team for seven months. During this stretch, he led the roster in 25 matches, with 19 in the La Liga, three in the Champions League and three more in the Copa del Rey.

"This is the first decision within a wider restructuring of the first team which will be agreed between the current technical secretary and the new coach, who will be announced in the coming days,” the statement continued.

During Setien's tenure, he managed to tally 16 wins, four draws and five losses.

But the final bout of his stay as the manager was a tough one given how Bayern Munich manhandled the team. The 2-8 defeat left a bitter ending to the turbulent coaching stint of Setien as players such as Thomas Muller and Philippe Coutinho managed to score multiple times during the match.

It was deemed a humiliating loss with how their opponents dominated the majority of the game in their matchup. With all of these, it has been reported that Ronald Koeman will step up as the next coach of the organization.

It will be interesting to see how Barcelona bounces back after this major change. With players such as Messi on the team, nothing short of excellence is expected from the club.
