Barcelona loanee Philippe Coutinho has brushed off talks about his future - at least for now - saying he is focused on helping Bayern Munich win the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.
"My mind is fully focused on the competition. It’s a unique opportunity for us. I’m very happy to be in the Champions League final,” Coutinho told Esporte Interativo following Bayern’s dominant win over Lyon in the semifinal on Wednesday.
"On my future, I haven’t thought about it because I’m only thinking about the final."
The Brazilian midfielder is being linked to a comeback to the Premier League as he has been on the radar of several English giants, namely Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea.
He is set for a return to Camp Nou at the end of the season as Bayern has refused to sign him permanently. But while his deal with the Catalans won’t expire until 2023, the ex-Liverpool star might find himself shipped anew with Barca looking to capitalize on a potential transfer agreement.
Interestingly, Coutinho was responsible for two goals in Bayern’s 8-2 annihilation of his parent club in UCL’s quarterfinal. But that’s now water under the bridge for the 28-year-old as he shifts his full attention on the task of taking down PSG.
On the flip side, PSG will be making its trip to the European Cup final for the first time in club history. Consequently, Coutinho believes being in an uncharted territory does not make the French giants any less of a lethal squad that they have been all year, especially with a plethora of talented weapons spearheaded by fellow Brazilian superstar, Neymar.
"We haven’t spoken yet because of the match. I’m sure he is focused on his team and me on mine," Coutinho said of Neymar, via Goal.
"PSG is a very strong side with really quick forwards. I don’t even need to say how great of a player Neymar is because the whole world knows it. They also have a solid defense. It’ll be a great match, a great final."
The Champions League final will take place on Sunday in Lisbon with Coutinho and Bayern tagged as early favorites to capture the title.
