  • Barcelona confirms interest in Sevilla's Bryan Gil
  • A Barca scout compares Gil to Neymar and wants to sign him as soon as possible
  • Sevilla may not be willing to let the winger go at the moment

Barcelona is planning to pursue a winger who has similarities with Neymar.

In 2017, Neymar left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain with two La Liga titles to his name. The Brazilian superstar has been linked to a reunion with Lionel Messi at Camp Nou, but nothing appears to be concrete yet even to this day.

However, the Catalans may have finally found their new Neymar in Sevilla’s Bryan Gil, an on-loan winger at Eibar.

Gil has got Spanish clubs alerted following his impressive debut loan season at José Luis Mendilibar’s side. In fact, he is now on Barcelona’s radar and according to German “Mani” Vaya Ballabriga, the club’s scout who also brought Andres Iniesta and Ansu Fati at Camp Nou.

Barca is looking to sign the 20-year-old before his value shoots up.

"Right now he is Spain's best footballer and I compare him with Neymar," Mani told Cadena SER's “Què T'hi Jugues” of Gil. "He can do certain things and has great versatility, as he can play at full-back in the middle or on the left-wing. It's impressive.”

"I have spoken with (Barcelona technical secretary) Ramon Planes about him and he has Bryan Gil in mind,” he continued. "If he is signed now then his release clause is €35 million ($42 million), but if he signs a new deal with Sevilla then he'll have a release clause worth €150 million ($182 million)."

Aside from Barcelona scouts, die-hard Blaugrana fans also want Gil at Camp Nou. A recent poll from El Mundo Deportivo shows 84.6% of Barcelona fans are convinced the youngster would be a good signing for the club.

Gil's contract with Sevilla is set to expire in 2023 and his loan deal at Eibar is due to end in the summer. However, Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui ’s previous comments suggested that the club is keen on keeping the winger along with his fellow loanee Alejandro Pozo.

“They [Gil and Pozo] are two players who are playing a lot, leaving Sevilla to defend Eibar,” Lopetegui told Marca in a press conference. “They’ve made important growth and they’re going to be a part of the future of Sevilla. Bryan, specifically, can be a reference for Sevilla in the future. They’re having a very good season.”

Gil is playing the best season of his young career at Eibar. In 15 matches, the left-footed forward has now bagged three goals and dished out two assists.
