Barcelona 'Occasionally' Monitoring New 19-Year-Old Prospect

Barcelona are reportedly monitoring the current situation of a 19-year-old prospect from Ajax.

As expected, this coming summer will involve massive transfer moves from the biggest clubs in Europe. La Liga giants Barcelona have been keen on pursuing new signings in the rebuilding process.

A recent report from Veronicainside (via Besoccer.com) states that the Catalan club is weighing in on the situation of Ajax full-back Sergiño Dest. The 19-year-old defender emerged as one of the most promising players in Dutch football. This has led to Barcelona putting him under their radar.

Analysis from ProFootballDB revealed that Dest is a very unusual full-back and has already captured the attention of clubs across Europe. In fact, Ajax have already reportedly rejected 20 million euros from Dest’s first suitors Bayern Munich. But now, the Dutch media are said to be already seeing Dest winding up at Camp Nou.

Affirming the talks was Dest’s agent Joes Blakborn, who recently revealed in De Telegraaf that Barcelona have “occasionally asked” about the current terms of the youngster’s contract. However, Blakborn refused to confirm that the La Liga leaders are keen on making a move at this point.

"Barcelona have occasionally asked about the situation of Sergiño, but that's all. There is no specific interest," Blakborn revealed .

Barcelona are highly expected to let go of their defender Nelson Semedo soon. Reports claimed that Semedo is opting to leave Barcelona for Manchester City. Prior to this, Semedo was also mentioned in a possible deal that would finally put Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez to Barcelona.

Dest is described as a versatile player who can work from both right and left. He has played 35 matches and started 27 times . Dest has already scored 2 goals and completed 5 assists in his first impressive season in the Eredivisie.

Aside from Dest, Barcelona are also linked to another notable defender in Premier League star Juan Foyth. Both Tottenham Hotspurs and Foyth have already revealed their mutual interest to part ways with each other, a situation in which Barcelona are reportedly likely to take advantage.

However, things would not go as easy as it sounds for Barcelona as EFL Championship leaders Leeds United are also interested in Foyth. Reports claimed that Barcelona and Leeds are expected to compete in signing the 22-year-old defender who hasn’t been meeting the expectations of his current club.
