  • Sergio Aguero is set to leave Man City as a free agent this summer
  • He wants to play alongside Messi at Barca, even if it is for just one season
  • Juventus have offered Aguero a two-year deal ahead of the summer window

FC Barcelona have reportedly revived interest in signing Sergio Aguero, who wants to form a "dream" pair with Lionel Messi.

Barcelona are set to make an offer for Aguero but the Manchester City star will have to accept a pay cut to fit in the club’s new wage structure, Spanish publication Sport reported.

Manchester City announced in March that Aguero will leave the Etihad club when his contract expires at the end of the 2020-21 season. The Argentina national, who moved from Atletico Madrid to Manchester in 2011, has become a legend in the Premier League. Having netted 257 goals in 384 competitive matches over the years, he is Manchester City’s all-time leading goal scorer and is the fourth-highest goalscorer in England’s top-flight league’s history (181 goals). He is also the highest non-English scorer in the Premier League.

Aguero wants to remain in Europe and his representatives have begun to hear offers from various top clubs. It is understood that he wants to return to Spain, where began his European career. He spent five seasons at the Wanda Metropolitano before making the switch to Manchester City.

Ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, Barcelona have an upper hand in Aguero’s case because the Manchester City striker wants to play alongside Lionel Messi, which is the dream, even if it is just for one season, according to the Sport report. Having spent so much time at the Argentina national team, Messi and Aguero have become close friends, so much that they have been sharing rooms together when on national duty for over a decade now.

It is also understood that Aguero’s arrival won’t rule out the signing of another playmaker this summer.

Apart from Barcelona, Aguero is being chased by other top European clubs as well, including Juventus and Chelsea.

The Turin club has offered a two-year deal to Aguero and is ready to pay him around $12 million per season, according to the Sport report. Even though the salary is less than what Aguero earns at Manchester City, Juventus’ wage offer is definitely more than what Barcelona are willing to give Aguero.

Apart from Aguero, Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman also is looking for a solid No. 9 and he has his eyes on Erling Haaland and Lautaro Martinez for that position.
