KEY POINTS

  • Vidal will reportedly undergo medicals at Inter Milan soon
  • He has already agreed to terms with the Serie A side
  • His contract includes a wage of $7 million per season

Arturo Vidal is likely to undergo a medical test in Italy in the next two days as he is set to leave FC Barcelona on a free transfer at the ongoing summer market.

With new head coach Ronald Koeman taking charge, Barcelona is going through a transition phase. The likes of Vidal and Luis Suarez have been told to look for another club as they are not included in Koeman's plans for the club. Both the goal-scoring players are believed to be heading to Italy. While Vidal is close to signing a deal with Inter Milan, Suarez is understood to have agreed to terms with Juventus.

If a deal goes through between Barcelona and Juventus, Suarez could become the 14th player to have played alongside both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Suarez was Messi’s Barcelona teammate for six years and the two struck a great relationship on and off the field. It would be interesting to watch how well the Uruguayan would gel with Ronaldo, who moved from Real Madrid to Juventus in the summer of 2018.

While it is understood that Suarez needs to give an Italian language test to seal a move to Italy, that is not the case in Vidal's transfer as the Chilean midfielder had previously played in Italy.

Vidal was a part of the Serie A between 2011 and 2015 when he was with Juventus before moving to Bayern Munich and then finally landing in Barcelona in 2018.

Italian broadcaster Sports Mediaset has claimed that Vidal will arrive in Milan in the next 48 hours to take the medical test. The 33-year-old Chilean midfielder currently is resolving the "bureaucratic issues" that need his attention before Barcelona terminate his contract.

Another Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport has revealed that Inter Milan have decided not to interfere in Vidal’s final negotiations with his current club. Sports Mediaset has also stated that Vidal agreed to personal terms with Inter Milan a few days ago. His agent, Fernando Felicevich, has arranged for a two-year contract with an option for the third year at $7 million per season.
