Barcelona'’s 2 Key Players Return Ahead of Europa League Clash With Frankfurt [Details]
KEY POINTS
- Barcelona are set to host Frankfurt in Europa League on Thursday
- Xavi's Barca are unbeaten in 15 competitive games
- Barca are second in the La Liga table
Xavi Hernandez announced FC Barcelona’s squad Thursday, ahead of their crucial quarter-final second leg game against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The first leg between Barcelona and Frankfurt ended in a 1-1 draw at Deutsche Bank Park. The Catalans are now set to host the German side at Camp Nou in a crucial return leg on Thursday.
Barcelona received a major boost as Memphis Depay and Sergino Dest returned to the squad after their injury lay-offs, according to Barca's media. Depay missed two games due to a thigh muscle strain. Dest missed out on as many as four matches after he suffered a Biceps femoris muscle injury during Barcelona’s Round of 16 Europa League clash with Galatasaray last month, according to Transfermarkt.
Even though Gerrard Pique has been included in Barcelona’s squad for their trip to Frankfurt, the Spanish defender "has not been declared fully fit."
Pique picked up an abductor issue and was forced off the field in the first half during Barcelona’s trip to Frankfurt last week. As a result, the veteran defender then missed Barcelona’s away league game against Levante. It has been reported that Pique’s injury is not serious but his chances of playing will eventually come down mostly to pain tolerance. It is understood that Piqué will continue to get treatment until he feels comfortable enough to play.
Meanwhile, Ansu Fati, Sergio Roberto and Samuel Umtiti continue to be out of action as they are recovering from their injuries. Dani Alves, on the other hand, has not been registered in Barcelona’s Europa League squad and hence won’t play Thursday.
Barcelona’s squad for Frankfurt game: Ter Stegen, Sergino Dest, Gerard Piqué, R. Araujo, Sergio Busquets, Riqui Puig, Ousmane Dembélé, Memphis Depay, Adama Traore, Martin Braithwaite, Neto, Clement Lenglet, Pedri, Luuk de jong, Jordi Alba, Ferran Torres, Frenkie de Jong, Oscar Mingueza, Eric Garcia, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nico Gonzalez, Gavi, Alejandro Balde and Arnau Tenas.
Barcelona are going through an excellent run under Xavi as they are unbeaten in 15 matches, across all competitions. In La Liga, the Camp Nou side is second in the league table, 12 points behind leaders Real Madrid and still has a game in hand.
