  • Barcelona's Sergiño Dest scored his first two goals of the season
  • Dest is viewed as another Barca player who could be Lionel Messi's future co-star
  • The American feels Ronald Koeman's new system fits his game

Another Barcelona new signing is slowly becoming Lionel Messi’s co-star.

Sergiño Dest is playing his debut season with Barcelona after leaving Ajax earlier this season. Head coach Ronald Koeman has tasked the USMNT rising star to bring in fresh firepower on the pitch,

Naturally a full-back, Dest can be seen being active in Barca’s attack, having attempted a few shots on target in recent games.

Finally, Dest’s day came on Sunday as he scored twice in Barcelona’s 6-1 thumping of Real Sociedad.

What’s even more remarkable, the 20-year-old’s first Barcelona goal came from a sensational assist by none other than Messi himself.

Dest’s brace also saw him becoming the second youngest American to score two or more goals in a game under Europe's top-flight leagues, just behind Bundesliga’s Matthew Hoppe .

Following his impressive performance, Dest made headlines and is now celebrated as another player who could promise Messi a “bright future” for Barcelona, Goal reported.

Like his teammates Ansu Fati, Pedri and Francisco Trincao, Dest is also trying to take a page from the Argentine’s book.

“I'm playing with the best of the game,” Dest recently told CBS Sports. “Every training [session] you look at [Lionel Messi] and see what he does, it's unbelievable. I try to take a couple of things from him, of course it's really hard.”

Among Barca’s debutants this season, Dest is one of the most active, having been featured in 22 matches to date, 17 of which as a starter.

In Koeman’s new system, Dest is involved in several positions, particularly in the front.

According to the American, the entire system has been working very well for the team and his playing style.

"I feel like I've developed a lot in Barcelona," Dest explained. "This system we're playing right now, that's something that fits me really well. This system fits the whole team as well, for me it's a little bit better because I have someone behind me and I like to take some risks into my game. If I take risks in the game I'm at my best, taking actions and attacking.”

"As a team, the system fits really well because we're winning a lot of games, scoring a lot of goals,” he added. "I feel like I'm learning from all the players. It's really good for my development. I'm at the right place to get my full potential.”
