  • Aubameyang has joined Barcelona on a free transfer
  • He had not played for Arsenal since December
  • Aubameyang was stripped off Arsenal's captaincy following a disciplinary breach

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has blamed boss Mikel Arteta for his exit from Arsenal in the January window.

Aubameyang, who moved from Arsenal to FC Barcelona as a free agent on deadline day of the winter market, has opened up a "problem" he had with Arteta, who had frozen the player out of the Gunners squad.

The 32-year-old forward's departure came after he was stripped of the Arsenal captaincy following a disciplinary breach.

"They were complicated months but I think that's how football is sometimes. For my part, I have never wanted to do something wrong and now I think that this is the past and I want to think about the present and right now that is my answer. I think it was a problem just with him [Arteta]. He made the decision. I can't say much more. He wasn't happy, I stayed very calm and that's it," Aubameyang said at his Nou Camp unveiling Thursday, according to Goal.com.

Aubameyang, who scored seven goals and provided two assists in 15 competitive appearances for Arsenal in the 2021-22 season, had not played for the Emirates side since December.

However, the former Arsenal skipper said he cannot wait to get started at Barcelona.

"I think that for years people that know me know that I score goals and I'm a quick striker, so I hope to help the team with my goals and score a lot of them for Barca. This is the opportunity of my life, I'm buzzing and I'll give everything," said Aubameyang, SPORT reported.

"I have to thank the club and it's an honor to be here. I'm ready to help the team. It's true that I haven't played a lot recently but in my head, I'm ready to play. I know that I will get back to the top bit by bit. Right now I'm living a dream, I've wanted to be here for many years," the former Borussia Dortmund star added.

Barcelona would hope to see Aubameyang making a difference immediately. As of now, the Catalans are fifth in the league table, meaning they won't play the Champions League next season. But with just a point behind fourth-placed Atletico Madrid, Xavi Hernandez's Barcelona still have a chance of finishing in the top four.
