“Barefoot Contessa” host now wants to meet with cancer victim, may be too late
After the Internet backlash over the last few days, Food Network's Barefoot Contessa host, Ina Garten finally agreed to meet with a 6-year-old leukemia victim.
Enzo Pereda had requested to cook a meal with Garten through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Foundation reportedly approached Garten twice about Enzo's wish, only to be rejected both times claiming to have too busy of a schedule.
Garten recently announced that she will meet with the young cancer patient. According to Gawker, Garten released a statement on Monday saying that she was unaware of Enzo's pleas and will clear some time in her schedule for the child.
Ina became aware of Enzo's story this weekend and will be calling him today. She looks forward to inviting him to spend some time with her at the Food Network studios, a rep said.
The statement went on to state that Garten contributes both personally and financially on a regular basis to numerous causes, including to Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Unfortunately, Garten may have acted a little too late.
After her multiple rejections, the Make-A-Wish Foundation decided to act on Enzo's second wish, which is to swim with dolphins, according to The Wrap.
TMZ is reporting that Enzo is so excited to swim with dolphins that he sleeps in his bathing suit and spends several hours a day learning to swim.
