'The Batman' Resumes Production After Robert Pattinson Was Cleared To Return To Work

Robert Pattinson got a go signal to film "The Batman" again after he previously tested positive for COVID-19, which forced the makers to halt the production on the project.

Pattinson has been cleared to return to work weeks after his COVID-19 diagnosis. "The Batman" was supposed to resume production on Sept. 3, but it was forced to push back the filming as Pattinson was still recovering. The cast and crew who were in close contact with him were also in quarantine. Some sets were constructed at the time, but the cameras stopped rolling.

"Following a hiatus for COVID 19 quarantine precautions, filming has now resumed on ‘The Batman’ in the U.K," a spokesperson for Warner Bros. Pictures told Variety.

The outlet noted that the studio never confirmed the identity of the person who tested positive for COVID-19 on the set. They also did not reveal Pattinson's condition or if anyone else on the set also tested positive. Pattinson's rep also didn't acknowledge that he contracted the virus, but Variety confirmed the initial report that the "Twilight" star was the one who tested positive for COVID-19.

In August, Variety also reported that "The Batman" were to resume production in September. They were on the seventh week of production when filming was halted due to the global health crisis. Pattinson and the rest of the cast and crew still have three months of material left to shoot, so it might take until the end of the year to wrap up.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for "The Batman" during the DC FanDome event last month. Pattinson had dark eyeliner and a very serious demeanor in the trailer, prompting many fans to describe it as his "emo" look.

"Now this Batman looks like he's got personal issues," one commented on the trailer.

"Batman look like he was friends with joker," another added.

"So we’re bringing back the emo phase? Batman and emo doesn’t fit well with me," one fan wrote on Twitter.

Another described Pattinson's look as "Angry Batman" which is okay, but an "Emo Bruce Wayne" is a "no" for the fan.

Director Matt Reeves explained why Pattinson looked that way in the trailer and said his character was still "far from being perfect" in the movie because he was still figuring out what he can do to change Gotham.

"It's a detective story, a mystery, it's got, of course, action, and it's incredibly personal for him. He's kind of a growing legend and [criminals] are afraid of him. He's not a symbol of hope yet. One of the things he has to deal with is how he's perceived," Reeves explained.

"The Batman" is set to premiere on Oct. 1, 2021.
