‘Battlefield 1’ Nivelle Nights DLC Walkthrough Suggests Trouble For Snipers
Battlefield 1 premium pass players are getting Nivelle Nights map DLC this June, and YouTube’s Col. Squirrel has already made a complete video walkthrough of the multiplayer map. Especially if you’re not in the Community Test Environment, here’s how to start strategizing early.
First, for those who missed the official details, Nivelle Nights takes players to Chemin des Dames as it appeared in 1917. French and German forces dug in deep to fight over contested land at the border, and that’s precisely what combatants will be expected to do online.
The Battlefield 1 community has long bemoaned the game’s lack of true World War I trench warfare, but Nivelle Nights offers tons of it. In fact, that’s essentially all you’ll be able to do. It’s a tight, labyrinthine network of trenches that occasionally opens up to campfires where teams can spawn and regroup.

That means snipers will basically be no good here. Because both friend and foe are packed so closely together, shotguns, some assault rifles and machine guns should be your weapon of choice. Unless you can truly get enough distance between a target, even grenades might be a dangerous choice. It’s the exact opposite, for example, of the open air of the Sinai Desert, and it offers plenty of unique gameplay opportunities.
In some cases Nivelle Nights appears so condensed that we wonder if a skilled duo could easily clog a lane and dominate the whole way around. DICE has created a potential workaround for that by letting teams hop outside the trenches, but, in so doing, you make yourself wide open for an easy kill. It’s a major risk that will assuredly have to be taken by only the bravest of souls.
Because this map still in testing, this version of Nivelle Nights is subject to change before June. For our part, we’d like to see more environmental objects clogging lanes to make traversal more nuanced.
As this is a premium map, it requires Battlefield 1’s $50 Premium Pass to play. However, all players in a multiplayer party with a Premium Pass member can enjoy the content for free when it launches in June.
Battlefield 1 is available now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
