KEY POINTS

  • Video clips of "Battlefield 2042" have appeared on streaming sites
  • Most clips have since been taken down by EA
  • Industry insider Tom Henderson shared some details about gameplay

Multiple clips of gameplay footage of the early “Battlefield 2042” technical playtest have begun to surface online as testers start capturing videos of the game despite their NDA with the developers.

Many of the leaked videos have since been taken down by EA, but more clips have started appearing on platforms like YouTube and Streamable. The community members at r/GamingLeaksAndRumours have begun rounding up whatever clips they can find to hopefully give excited “Battlefield” fans a closer look at the game before the public open beta begins in September.

Leaked footage shows testers playing Conquest in the new Orbital map, which features wide fields of fire on rolling hills and tightly packed facilities. The destruction level in “Battlefield 2042” appears to be on par with “Battlefield 3”; players won’t be able to completely flatten maps, but destruction will still be significant enough to alter environments.

Industry insider Tom Henderson released a barrage of tweets containing tiny details about “Battlefield 2042.” In one tweet, he mentioned that the game will have a ping and spotting system that’s very similar to “Battlefield V.” Players will be able to ping the general location of enemies and 3D spotting will be limited only to certain Specialists.

Other details include:

  • Third-person knife execution animations
  • Four different ammo types (light, medium, heavy and armor-piercing)
  • AI kills won’t count toward player profile stats
  • Vehicle entrance/exit animations are now gone
  • The game is protected by Easy Anti-Cheat

The Exodus ship featured in the short film of the same name serves as the player’s base, possibly serving as a representation of the game’s main menu. Henderson said that the ship has a shooting range where players can test out their weapons.

Playtesters have reported that “Battlefield 2042” is badly optimized at its current state, which is expected from a technical test.

One tester said that the game itself was good despite the technical issues in the game’s current build. They mentioned that the gunplay was snappy and vaguely reminiscent of “Battlefield 1” and the game ran smoothly at high settings on a GTX 1070 GPU and i7-6700k CPU.

“Battlefield 2042” is set for release on Oct. 22 while a beta is expected to go live by Sept. 3 or 24 as per Tom Henderson. Official beta dates are expected to be announced on Gamescom.
