'Battlefield 2042' Update 3.1: Weapon Balancing, Map Changes And More In New Patch
KEY POINTS
- Update 3.1 improves overall weapon accuracy and nerfs vehicle damage against infantry
- Rooftop capture points in certain maps have been removed in Breakthrough mode
- Weapons should now feel more accurate and consistent over long ranges
Another patch for “Battlefield 2042” was released with a heavy emphasis on improving the actual shooting experience this time around.
Update 3.1 is now live on all platforms, and it brought with it some very important bug fixes and even more improvements to weapon handling across the board. This comes shortly after the last batch of weapon changes from the big patch released earlier this month, which addressed the accuracy issues with many guns in the game.
Bullet dispersion and weapon recoil both got rebalanced in the new update. Most automatic weapons will now be able to fire accurately for longer following a reduction to dispersion cone growth. Additionally, bullet dispersion will now reset more quickly, allowing for more accurate bursts of fire when tap-firing. Hopefully, this would alleviate player frustration when engaging in long-range firefights.
Hip-fire accuracy for SMGs was improved to allow the weapon type to carve its spot in the meta. These weapons will now be better-suited for run-and-gun situations in tight quarters, giving them an edge over assault rifles and machine guns.
Shotgunners would still win in head-on duels, but the range will continue to play a significant factor. The MCS-880 shotgun specifically received a buff that makes it more consistent when using buckshot and flechette ammo.
Speaking of LMGs, all weapons under the category received lower recoil and dispersion values to increase their accuracy when firing long, sustained bursts.
All weapons across the board have had their recoil values adjusted. Players would notice this more when using fully-automatic weapons like rifles, SMGs and LMGs. Recoil values on hard-hitting weapons like the SFAR and the AK-24 received some extra tuning to keep them from feeling too jumpy when firing.
To keep in line with this infantry-focused update, the Ground Vehicle 30mm Cannons, 57mm Cannons and 40mm GPL were nerfed to be slightly less effective against soldiers. This would help with the overall survivability of ground troops while giving them a better fighting chance against armored targets.
Finally, DICE removed the rooftop capture points on the Kaleidoscope, Orbital and Hourglass maps in the Breakthrough game mode for a less frustrating experience.
