'Battlefield: S.W.A.T' Rumored Ahead Of 2014 E3: Could This Be EA's Unannounced Frostbite 3 Game?
Fresh rumors point to a new addition to the “Battlefield” first-person-shooter video game franchise that isn’t developed by EA DICE.
With the 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, just around the corner, rumors of games yet to be announced continue to make their way around the rumor mill. Of the most compelling is the possibility of Electronics Arts, Inc. (NASDAQ:EA) unveiling a new police-themed addition to the “Battlefield” franchise, which the video game community has tentatively called “Battlefield: S.W.A.T.”
Rumors of a police-themed “Battlefield” game surfaced back in February 2014 under the project name “Havana,” according to Polygon. However, recent tweets from Shinobi602 has raised interest towards “Battlefield: S.W.A.T.” a couple weeks before 2014 E3.
On the surface, the tweet doesn’t say much that hasn’t been said already. However, Shinobi602 has recently also been responsible for leaking “Halo 5: Guardians” details before the media embargo was officially lifted, according to OnlySP.
Earlier this May during an EA investors earnings call, Electronics Arts told investors that they plan to unveil six new games at the 2014 E3 expo in Los Angeles, California, including one currently unannounced Frostbite 3 title.
“If you don't have a Battlefield in a year, you've got a hole there that you have to fill,” EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said during the earnings call.
“That hole is essentially new titles along the lines of ‘Fifa World Cup,’ ‘UFC, a golf game, ‘The Sims’ and ‘Dragon Age. That fills about two thirds of the hole. The rest is filled by this new unannounced game,” Jorgensen added.
Could this unannounced Frostbite 3 title be the rumored “Battlefield: S.W.A.T?”
At this time this rumor currently remains unconfirmed, as EA has remained tightlipped about their unannounced projects. However, other "Battlefield" rumors have pointed to EA’s Visceral Games as the studio behind this upcoming addition to the “Battlefield” franchise.
