Bayern Munich Demand $35M For Liverpool, Manchester United's Target Midfielder: Report
KEY POINTS
- Bayern have demanded $35 million for Alcantara's transfer
- Liverpool have been heavily linked with the midfielder over the few weeks
- Alcantara has won seven league titles with Bayern
Bayern Munich reportedly are ready to sell Thiago Alcantara, who has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool FC over the last few weeks.
It is understood that even though Manchester United have labeled Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho as their top target this summer, they are also interested in Alcantara’s services. The Spanish player, who won seven consecutive league titles with Bayern since his arrival at the Allianz Arena in 2013, has a year left in his current contract but has refused to sign an extension. In fact, Man Utd came close to signing Alcantara in 2013 before the player had joined the Bundesliga side.
It was earlier reported that after Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp asked the club’s board to speed up Alcantara’s transfer process, The Reds agreed to personal terms with the 29-year-old Spanish player.
According to German publication BILD, Bayern are willing to sell Alcantara, provided their asking price of $35 million is met. The report has further revealed that Klopp and the board are pondering over Alcantara’s transfer because of the player’s age and injury record.
“I have no idea who will play for me next year. There is nothing to say at the moment. Thiago Alcantara is a great player, but also a Bayern Munich player. That’s actually all there is to say. There’s nothing to say!” said Klopp in a recent interview.
It is also understood that Alcantara’s move to Anfield could put a question mark on the future of Georginio Wijnaldum, who has just one year left on his contract with Liverpool and has not agreed to a new deal yet.
Under Klopp, Liverpool have turned tables around in the last five years, winning the Champions League in 2019, UEFA Super Cup, their maiden FIFA Club World Cup, and the Premier League. Liverpool had not won the league title in as many as 30 years and the 2019-20 title was also their first-ever Premier League triumph.
Adam Lallana, who had been with the Anfield side since 2014, recently left the club as a free agent and has joined Brighton. After spending six years with The Reds, Croatian defender Dejan Lovren has now moved to Russia’s Zenit St Petersburg.
