BBC Snubbed Princess Beatrice’s Royal Wedding Like Eugenie’s; Ceremony Might Be Private
KEY POINTS
- BBC is not airing Princess Beatrice's royal wedding
- BBC snubbed Princess Eugenie's royal wedding last year as well
- Princess Beatrice should rethink her wedding plans
BBC is not airing Princess Beatrice’s royal wedding.
Princess Beatrice is marrying her Italian property developer fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Her big day is expected to be the “last royal wedding of its kind for a long time.” However, the network declined to air extended live footage. BBC only offered “news coverage of the wedding across our services,” Express reported.
The network was asked if there would be extended coverage on either BBC One or BBC News Channel, BBC emphasized it would only be broadcasting “news coverage” rather than a live link replacing its normal programming.
This isn’t the first time BBC snubbed the coverage of a royal wedding. It also didn’t cover Princess Eugenie’s big day.
Prince Andrew reportedly approached BBC because they have a special relationship with the Buckingham Palace. However, the network refused because they didn’t want to take the risk. The netizens were also not convinced that there were 100,000 people who wanted to witness the event as announced by the palace.
Sky also snubbed the coverage and only ran snippets throughout the day as part of its rolling news coverage. But ITV took the opportunity and attracted 3 million viewers for Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s royal wedding coverage. However, the network remains tight-lipped over whether or not it will do the same for Princess Beatrice’s special day.
“We can’t comment any further on the situation surrounding Beatrice coverage until our teams are fully back in place next week,” an ITV spokesperson said.
According to the publication, Princess Beatrice’s father Prince Andrew is so toxic that her wedding could be held privately. Meanwhile, royal correspondent Jennie Bond warned Princess Beatrice to rethink of her wedding plans to avoid the criticisms Princess Eugenie received.
“I think they’re going to have to ‘rethink’ the arrangements for Beatrices’ wedding,” Bond said. “She’s marrying a man called Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and I think they were planning something along the lines of Eugenie’s wedding. But there were outcries over security costs for the taxpayer and I don’t think they’ll want a similar embarrassment for Beatrice so I imagine that will be scaled down somewhat.”
