Bears Fire General Manager Jerry Angelo
Jerry Angelo was fired on Tuesday as general manager of the Chicago Bears, a victim of the team's failure to make the playoffs in four of the last five seasons.
The Bears opened the 2011 season with seven wins in their first 10 games but lost five straight following an injury to quarterback Jay Cutler and finished the year at 8-8.
Angelo led the team to four division titles, two NFC title game appearances and a Super Bowl berth during his 11 years as the head of the team's football operations.
Bears President and CEO Ted Phillips will discuss the firing at a news conference later Tuesday at the team's headquarters in Lake Forest, Illinois.
