Adam Yauch, 44, a member of the Beastie Boys was diagnosed with cancer in his left parotid gland about two weeks ago, he said in a video posted on the band's website today.

Yauch will undergo surgery next week, followed by radiation in that area but the cancer was not located in a place where it would affect his voice, he said, which he found convenient.

This is something that is very treatable and in most cases they're able to completely get rid of it and people don't have continuing problems. They caught it early and its nowhere else in my body so that's the good news, Yauch said in a video blog post on the band's website.

The band will cancel concert tour dates and delay the release of their new album Hot Sauce Committee part 1.
