- Thorne received intense backlash from sex workers after joining OnlyFans in August
Porn star Sydney Leathers, Anthony Weiner’s former sexting partner, has joined the many OnlyFans creators who have criticized Bella Thorne's decision to join the website.
The adult performer, who also makes a living on the subscription platform popularized by sex workers, didn’t mince words when discussing Thorne’s OnlyFans debut and recent apology following accusations of “scamming” subscribers.
Leathers told Page Six that Thorne is a “spoiled, entitled rich girl who wants to grab as much money as she can and doesn’t care who she is hurting.” She also called out the former Disney star for giving a “non-apology” after allegedly causing the changes in the OnlyFans terms and conditions that affected other content creators.
“It was the most self-serving bulls–t. She should go into politics,” the 30-year-old writer and political activist said.
Like numerous sex workers, most of Leathers’ income comes from OnlyFans nowadays. She also said that many “strippers, doms and escorts” have launched accounts on the subscription platform to earn a living after the coronavirus pandemic made it impossible to work in person.
As for Thorne, Leathers believes that the actress' OnlyFans earnings should be donated to sex workers and sex worker organizations.
After joining OnlyFans in August, Thorne earned $1 million within 24 hours. Immediately, she managed to attract more than 50,000 followers, and within a week, she had already raked in $2 million.
However, she was then accused of “scamming” fans after promising “nude” photos to subscribers for $200 but failing to deliver. This was followed by OnlyFans putting caps on tips and pay-per-view content, which prompted criticism from sex workers relying on the platform.
Following the backlash, Thorne said her purpose for joining OnlyFans was to try to destigmatize sex work and to help sex workers earn more revenue.
“Remove the stigma behind sex, sex work, and the negativity that surrounds the word SEX itself by bringing a mainstream face to it that’s what I was trying to do, to help bring more faces to the site to create more revenue for content creators on the site,” Thorne wrote on Twitter.
Earlier, Thorne also said that she wanted to do research for a movie project with director Sean Baker, who has since denied having a collaboration with the actress.
When Thorne said she plans to meet with OnlyFans regarding the changes on the platform that adversely affected sex workers, she once again received backlash, with many content creators saying that their requests have been ignored by the company.
