A few days after revealing how he took a step back from playing Batman for the big screen, Ben Affleck has finally shared his opinion on Robert Pattinson donning the iconic costume in Matt Reeves’ upcoming film “The Batman.”
According to a report, the 47-year-old actor opened up about Pattinson’s first stint as the Caped Crusader in the upcoming project and praised the actor who is all set to replace him as the iconic comic-book character.
While promoting his upcoming film “The Way Back,” Affleck told Jake Hamilton that Pattinson is a “great” actor and that he feels the “Lighthouse” star will do an amazing job in playing the character. He also explained what kind of filmmaker is needed to helm a Batman movie.
“I think Robert’s a great actor, he is going to do great. The movie deserves to be made by someone whose dying to do it and cannot wait, and that was not me at the time, so I moved on.” Affleck said.
Affleck’s comments come a few days after he noticed that all the struggles he was going through in his personal life were some of the main reasons that made him step back from the project.
The esteemed actor added that his addiction to alcohol, his divorce from ex-wife Jennifer Garner, and the problems he faced while shooting and promoting the “Justice League” movie forced him to leave the project and work on himself first.
In February 2017, Matt Reeves took over the directing responsibilities and by July, it was confirmed that Reeves has dropped the script written by Affleck because he wanted to make a film about a younger Batman.
The “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” helmer recently shared the first look at Pattinson donning the iconic costume. The video, set to haunting background music by composer Michael Giacchino, slowly unveils the Bat logo in front of the Batsuit before closing in on Pattinson’s face as he tries to flex his shoulders.
The 56-second clip ends with Pattinson looking toward the camera as he gives a much better look at the mask that has been covering his face.
The first in the trilogy, “The Batman,” is scheduled to hit cinemas on June 25, 2021.
