A mainline sequel to 2017's "Bendy and the Ink Machine" is coming in hot, promising to expand the ink-blotted universe with a new cast of characters and an interesting new story.
"Bendy and the Dark Revival" was officially revealed by developer Joey Drew Studios in a short trailer that showcased a familiar visual style, overhauled graphics and a fresh new approach to the terror dwelling within the game's mysterious art studio.
"Dark Revival" features a new storyline starring Audrey, a cartoonist who finds herself transformed into an inky mutant inside the demon-infested Joey Drew animation studio.
The game retains its narrative-driven, FPS style of gameplay. Players get to interact with the world as Audrey as she uncovers the mystery regarding her condition and escapes the facility while simultaneously trying to survive the hostile forces stalking the halls, including the Ink Demon who returns from the original game.
For those who are unfamiliar with the series, "Bendy and the Ink Machine" is a survival horror game that focused on puzzle solving, storytelling and action. It was heavily inspired by "BioShock," as made apparent in its 1960s setting and overall aesthetic. The game may lack the combat depth of its inspirational material, but it compensated through its engaging riddles and interesting environments.
In "Bendy and the Dark Revival," players will get to do much of the same as before. Stealth and agility are essential to surviving combat encounters, and critical thinking is required to get through many of the roadblocks laid along the way.
Audrey uses a pipe-like bludgeon as her primary weapon, though she can be seen later in the trailer wielding an automatic weapon against off-screen ink monsters. According to the official website, she'll also have access to abilities and upgrades.
It's unknown whether or not the sequel will be released in a staggered, episodic format like the first game. The developers released five chapters in total between February 2017 and October 2018.
"Bendy and the Dark Revival" is set for an imminent release on Nov. 15 for PC via Steam. Xbox and PlayStation releases for the game are also set for the future, though no release date has been announced yet.
