Benedict Cumberbatch has opened up about helping a Ukrainian refugee family along with his wife, Sophie Hunter.

Cumberbatch and his wife gave up their house in the U.K. as part of the government's "homes for Ukraine" scheme that lets people offer their residences to Ukrainians fleeing their home country.

"They’ve made it out of Ukraine, I’m monitoring their progress every day," Cumberbatch told Sky News on Tuesday. "Sadly, they are undergoing some medical treatment — to say anything more about that would be invasion of their privacy and too much about when they’re coming and how that’s being managed would invade mine."

The 45-year-old actor explained he wanted to give this family "some stability after the turmoil that they’ve experienced."

Cumberbatch announced last month he will be taking part in the "homes for Ukraine" scheme during Baftas ceremony held at Albert Hall, London.

"It is a really shocking time to be a European, two and a half hours’ flight away from Ukraine, and it’s something that hangs over us," he told Sky News, The Guardian reported. "We all need… to do more than wear a badge."

Cumberbatch, who wore a Ukrainian flag during the event, stressed everyone needs to donate more and put pressure on the "politicians to continue to create some kind of a haven here for people who are suffering."

"Everyone needs to do as much as they can," he added. "There’s been a record number of people volunteering to take people into their homes, I hope to be part of that myself."

Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24 and since then, many actors have openly supported Ukraine. Previously, Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova called the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war "heartbreaking," and voiced her support for Ukrainian fighters for defending their independence and democracy.

On the work front, Cumberbatch will be next seen in the highly anticipated Marvel movie, "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," which is slated to release on May 6.

He is currently filming, "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar" movie, and will also feature in projects like "The 39 Steps," "Morning" and "Rogue Male."
