The Best Destinations In The World, According To TripAdvisor

Most people release there top destinations for 2012 list sometime between December and February. Others wait: TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel site by visitor numbers, announced the winners of its 2012 Travelers' Choice Destinations awards on Tuesday. The fourth annual awards honored 440 outstanding destinations in 37 markets across the globe from Sydney to San Francisco.

The Travelers' Choice Destinations awards are selected based on millions of reviews and opinions logged by TripAdvisor users. The travel advice site determined the winners by combining destinations' popularity and travelers' ratings.

Chief Marketing Officer Barbara Messing said the list highlights destinations from all corners of the globe.

The TripAdvisor community has once again helped pinpoint hundreds of the most amazing and beloved travel destinations of the year, she said in a statement. For travelers planning their big annual vacation or just a weekend getaway, these awards highlight awe-inspiring travel locations of all varieties around the globe.

Just missing the top ten were Chicago, Illinois; Florence, Italy; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Sydney, Australia; and Beijing, China. Other top destinations included Prague, Honolulu, Bora Bora, Cape Town, and Dublin.
