The Best Horror Movies Coming To Theaters In Summer 2017
October isn’t the only month where horror fans can get a thrill at the movies. Ahead of the official start of the summer season, studios are releasing some of their highly anticipated scary movie titles. Below is a compilation of all of the best horror movies coming out in summer 2017.
“47 Meters Down” - June 16
Two sisters get more adventure on their Mexico vacation then they were planning for when a shark dive turns horribly wrong in his thriller. Kate (Claire Holt) and Lisa (Mandy Moore) have to fight for their lives after their “totally safe” shark cage gets separated from their boat during a dive in shark-infested waters. Stuck in a cage deep below the ocean and running low on oxygen, one of the sisters escapes the cage to get help while the other (Moore) stays and fights off Great Whites.
“Amityville: The Awakening”- June 30
Fans of “The Amityville Horror” have been waiting a long time for this title to release. In this re-telling of the classic Long Island horror story, a present day family moves into the infamous abode at 112 Ocean Avenue and must endure the horrors from within. Bella Thorne, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Cameron Monaghan star.
“Wish Upon” - July 14
When a teen uncovers a box that grants her seven wishes she uses one to wish a mean girl in her neighborhood would “go rot.” Things go terribly wrong when her dark wish comes true, but Claire, played by Joey King, seems to only notice the upside. “It’s given me money, love,” she says in the trailer. Unfortunately for her, danger eventually follows. Be careful what you wish for has never been such sound advice!
“Annabelle: Creation”- Aug. 11
The dark history behind the haunted doll in 2014’s blockbuster “Annabelle” will come to light in this summer’s prequel “Annabelle: Creation.” The film follows a couple who several years after the death of their daughter welcome a nun and orphaned children to come live with them. The guests, however, are not welcomed by Annabelle. The horror film is directed by David F. Sandberg of “Lights Out” fame and produced by James Wan and Peter Safran of “The Conjuring.”
“Polaroid” - Aug. 25
The short film has been turned into a feature length movie. Directed by Lars Klevberg, the film follows a high schooler who discover a Polaroid camera, completely unaware of its dark past. After discovering the camera’s power, it is revealed that those who use it will have a dark fate. The film was created by the producers of “The Ring” and “The Grudge.”
“It” - Sept. 8
This film just misses the summer cutoff, premiering four days after Labor Day, but it’s definitely worth mentioning if you’re looking for end-of-summer scare. In Andrés Muschietti’s “It,” a group of children discover the shoe of missing resident in their small town in Maine and find themselves combating a clown shapeshifter responsibke. Bill Skarsgård plays the role of the terrifying Pennywise the Clown. Check out the trailer above.
