Bethenny Frankel Slams Prince Harry Over Meghan Markle, Princess Diana Comparisons In Documentary
"Real Housewives of New York City" alum Bethenny Frankel is the latest celebrity to call out Meghan Markle and Prince Harry over their Netflix documentary.
A few days after the first three episodes of the "Harry & Meghan" docuseries were released, Frankel took to TikTok to slam the couple for trying to compare the Duchess of Sussex to the late Princess Diana.
"They really wanted to push the [Princess] Diana aspect, the comparison, and I feel like it achieves the opposite result because Diana was there five, six, seven times longer than Meghan and entered the monarchy when she was 19. It's just not the same comparison," Frankel said.
Frankel claimed the couple "left out big chucks" of information.
"Meghan walked into the monarchy a divorcée, older, and a woman of color. Wallis Simpson was with the Duke of Windsor, who abdicated the throne, [and she] was a Jewish woman, who was divorced, and both of those elements contributed to it being controversial."
Frankel went on to reveal she found the docuseries "a little bit boring" and believed Prince Harry and Meghan were trying to garner sympathy.
"It felt like this entire documentary was about how famous we are ... it was relentless," Frankel explained.
"If you are being trolled by the media, the royal family gave you the advice to say nothing because that's the advice that most very famous people are given. If you add gasoline to a fire, the fire blows up even bigger. It feels like they — and Meghan in particular — just keep wanting to tell us more."
Frankel's criticism of Meghan and Harry comes after she was called out by Andy Cohen for returning to her "Real Housewives" roots by launching her rewatch podcast "ReWives."
"I thought it was kind of hypocritical of you to [launch the podcast] because you have been trashing the 'Housewives' publicly for the last three years," Cohen told Frankel during the Dec. 7 episode of "Watch What Happens Live."
Frankel argued that she was allowed to reflect on her time on the Bravo reality series. "I actually haven't been trashing the show. I said it wasn't for me because I do think it was toxic, and I'm entitled to not want to be there but still want to talk about it."
Frankel appeared on the cast of "RHONY" for the first three seasons and returned in Season 7. However, she announced her final exit from the show in 2019 at the end of Season 11.
