‘Better Call Saul’ Season 3 Spoilers: Gus Fring Is Back! Giancarlo Esposito Confirms That His ‘Breaking Bad’ Character Returns In AMC Series
Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) is back! The Los Pollos Hermanos owner will appear in “Better Call Saul” Season 3.
Esposito confirmed his appearance in a tweet along with a video that is a mock commercial of his character’s fictional chain of fried chicken restaurants. Earlier, we had reported that the “Better Call Saul” executive producer, Peter Gould, had confirmed the appearance of the mild-mannered drug lord of New Mexico in Season 3.
“Better Call Saul” is a prequel to “Breaking Bad.” In the latter show, Gustavo “Gus” Fring fought with chemistry teacher-turned-meth-manufacturer Walter White (Bryan Cranston) for control over the meth trade in New Mexico. He was killed off in the Season 4 finale by White with the help of an explosive device and a paraplegic and mute Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis).
Gus ran a chain of fried chicken restaurants while also controlling the distribution of White’s famous blue meth. He used his restaurants as a way to launder money that he made as a meth distributor.
“Better Call Saul” has had appearances from several “Breaking Bad” characters including Gus’ hitman Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), Tuco Salamanca (Raymond Cruz) and Nacho Varga (Michael Mando). According to Entertainment Weekly, Season 3 will also feature appearances by Ken (Kyle Bornheimer), Krazy-8 (Max Arciniega), arms dealer Lawson (Jim Beaver) and the Salamanca cousins (Daniel and Luis Moncada).
Season 2 of “Better Call Saul” ended with Mike trying to assassinate Hector after he threatened to kill his granddaughter. Fortunately, his assassination attempt was stopped by someone who wrote Don’t on the windshield of his car. This scene may have been a clue to Gus’ return since he could have written that message. Moreover, the first letters of all the Season 2 episodes’ titles spell out Fring’s back.
“Better Call Saul” Season 3 airs in spring 2017 on AMC.
