Jimmy’s (Bob Odenkirk) decent will continue in “Better Call Saul” Season 5. In a recent interview, Odenkirk shared his excitement for what he called the best season of the show yet, and he also shared his insights about his character and why he gets into trouble so often.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Odenkirk said that this is the “best season” they have ever done. “It’s just shattering in every direction, and I love it,” he added.

Odenkirk talked about the events in the previous season, and how that will impact his character and the story going forward. Jimmy is impatient and a “restless soul” who always wants more in life. This attitude of wanting more out of life has gotten him in trouble.

One reason why Jimmy has been working so hard, or cutting corners to achieve something, until now was to win Chuck’s (Michael McKean) affection and respect. Odenkirk pointed out that his character spent his 30s doing this, but that changed in the last season.

Chuck’s last words to Jimmy were that he didn’t mean that much to him. Odenkirk said that those words flipped a switch in his character, and he doesn’t want to care about his brother anymore. “Better Call Saul” Season 5 will be about the character’s reaction to that big death.

Odenkirk explained that the attitude of not caring about his brother’s death is a farce, and his character is truly hurting inside. On the outside he is going to be Saul Goodman “pretty much full-time” going forward.

The fans who have watched “Breaking Bad” known where Jimmy is headed. In a previous interview with Variety, executive producer Peter Gould said that they now have an episode in Season 5 that they were waiting for since the beginning of the show. The producer also added that they may now have a clearer idea about how the TV series will end.

One final connection Jimmy has to his old life is Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn), but even that connection is breaking. In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Seehorn that her character is feeling “more alone” than ever before in her life after the events in Season 4.

“Better Call Saul” Season 5 is set to premiere sometime in 2020.
