'Better Call Saul' Spoilers: 4 Burning Questions For Season 2 After The Season 1 Finale
Season 1 of “Better Call Saul” came to a close Monday -- ending one of the more successful debut seasons of a spinoff in recent memory. From dealing with the Kettlemans, to his fallout with his brother (Michael McKean), to watching his scam artist friend Marco (Mel Rodriguez) die in an ally, it has been a rough first 10 episodes for Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk). At the end of the finale, “Marco,” Jimmy seemed ready to abandon his quest to do the right thing and start down a path that will end in his becoming Saul Goodman -- the series’ great inevitability. So what can viewers expect in Season 2?
Here are 4 burning questions for fans to ponder until the show returns:
1. Will Jimmy and Chuck Make Peace?
After learning that his brother had been the one responsible for preventing Jimmy from getting a job at Hamlin Hamlin & McGill, Jimmy left his brother to fend for himself. Although, fans know that Jimmy still very much cares about his brother’s well being -- not to mention what he thinks of Jimmy’s career. Plus, when Chuck saw Jimmy lingering in his car outside Chuck’s house, the elder brother was about go outside to presumable make peace before Jimmy drove away instead. Can the brothers make things right in Season 2? If Jimmy goes the way of Saul Goodman, it might be difficult.
2. What Will Happen Between Jimmy and Kim?
Jimmy has surely caused some relationship problems by turning down the job offer Kim (Rhea Seehorn) set up for him. All season Kim has been there to help Jimmy straighten himself out and do the right thing, but has he gone a step too far this time? It is hard to imagine her standing by this decision and supporting whatever unethical ventures he implied he was willing to undertake in his conversation with Mike (Jonathan Banks).
3. How Will Mike Get Involved?
Speaking of Mike, the former cop said he was not interested in anything more than the one job he was paid to do for Jimmy. However, it is hard to imagine that he will spend much more of the series as a parking attendant. It will only be a matter of time before Jimmy pulls him into another plot. The only questions are when and why.
4. How Much Time Will Pass?
Unlike most seasons of its parent show -- “Breaking Bad” -- Season 1 of “Better Call Saul” did not end on much a cliffhanger. The finale’s end was ambiguous at best as Jimmy promised Mike he would never allow himself to be inhibited by ethics again when staring down a big profit. This seems to be the beginning of Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, but how much of that transformation will take place off screen? “Better Call Saul” could pull a “Mad Men” and come back a year into the future. When fans next see Jimmy will he already have his new practice -- and new name?
